  • KTL coating, commonly known as E-coat, electrodeposition, or electrophoretic painting, is an immersion coating process. Parts are submerged in a water-based paint emulsion, and an electrical current is applied. This causes a chemical reaction that deposits a uniform, thin, and durable epoxy resin coating directly onto the metal surface, providing excellent corrosion resistance.
  • The process involves immersing cleaned metal parts into a bath containing a water-based paint solution. When an electrical current is passed through the bath using the parts as an electrode, an electrochemical reaction occurs. This reaction makes the paint particles (resin, pigments, additives) insoluble in water, causing them to deposit evenly and adhere to the entire surface of the part, including complex geometries and recessed areas.
  • Excellent Coverage: Provides a uniform, consistent coating even on complex shapes and hard-to-reach areas. Corrosion Resistance: Creates a durable, protective layer that significantly enhances part longevity. High Efficiency & Control: Offers high material transfer efficiency, precise film-build control, and allows for dense racking of parts, increasing productivity. Environmental & Safety Benefits: Typically uses low- or no-VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) and HAPs (Hazardous Air Pollutants) materials, reduces fire hazards, and minimizes worker exposure to hazardous materials. Cost-Effectiveness: Reduces paint waste and requires lower manpower compared to some traditional coating methods.
  • Any residue like oil, grease, or dirt will prevent the paint from properly adhering to the metal surface. Inadequate cleaning leads to poor coating quality, reduced corrosion protection, and potential defects. The cleaning method (e.g., phosphate for steel, alkaline for certain metals) is tailored to the substrate to ensure optimal surface preparation.
  • Curing in an oven cross-links and hardens the deposited paint film. This step is essential for developing the coating's full mechanical properties, including durability, abrasion resistance, chemical resistance, and the desired final appearance (e.g., gloss). The specific curing temperature depends on the chemistry of the e-coat material used.
