Common Uses for Spray Booths
One of the most shoehorned common uses of a spray booth is using it for manufacturing processes on conveyor lines, where many businesses place significance on surface coating, corrosion resistance, and cosmetic appearance; throughout a large number of industries.
The most frequent form of use for a spray booth would be within hardware manufacturing, where a large volume of mechanical hardware is coated using spray booths. For all of these applications, in addition to the use of spray booths, pretreatment methods (i.e., degreasing, cleaning, phosphating, etc.) are employed prior to the application of the coatings to ensure proper adhesion of the coatings to the hardware. After spray coating the mechanical hardware, all of the hardware is placed in a curing oven to allow the coating to cure to provide the mechanical hardware with a protective surface.
In the automotive and automotive parts manufacturing industries, spray booths provide a dust-free area for the application of paint to auto parts (i.e., bumpers, wheels, frames, and other structural components). In conjunction with a conveyor system for obtaining continuous coating operations, manufacturers also utilize automated spray guns (i.e., electrostatic spraying) to obtain consistent coverage of the coatings applied to each auto part. This process greatly reduces the amount of paint wasted since the electrostatic spray guns use an electrostatic charge to uniformly distribute the coatings as opposed to simply spraying `as is'.
Other thinkable uses of spray booths would be the ability to produce wood and metal furniture. Manufacturers who incorporate pneumatic or electrostatic spray guns along with automated control methods will produce all types of wood and metal furniture with a consistent finish, including but not limited to, chairs, cabinets, frames, or any type of decorative piece. This consistency in finishes of the furniture allows for longer-lasting durability, wear resistance, and therefore improving the furniture's overall quality.
Manufacturers who produce industrial machinery and appliances utilize spray booths to apply a coating to the exterior of all metal enclosures/cabinets, parts of agricultural machinery, and construction components. Coatings used for these applications include powder coatings or liquid spray paints that provide long-term corrosion resistance as well as protect against changing atmospheric conditions.
